J.C. Penney actually started out as a butcher in Longmont in 1898. Today's JCPenney has announced wide closures across the country,

The last time that you were in one of our local JCPenney stores, seems to have been your last, as they've announced that over 150 locations will be closing for good, this summer.

JCPenney filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May and has actually opened 500 locations recently, as the economy starts to recover from the strains of the pandemic.

The Fort Collins, Greeley, and Montrose locations won't be joining those 500.

Having grown up in Loveland, I have many memories of 'school clothes shopping' at JCPenney when it was in the Foothills Fashion Mall.
