What Is Popular Movie Star Tim Allen’s Connection To Colorado?
Tim Allen has been a fixture in American television and cinema over the past five decades. However, before he started out as one of the most iconic television dads of all time, he was a successful stand-up comic in the 1970s and 80s.
However, after getting a couple of lucky breaks, he was able to create his own sitcom, Home Improvement, from scratch, endearing us with multiple grunts we will never forget.
Outside of Home Improvement, he found success on the big screen with multiple Disney Movies in the 1990s, starring in The Santa Clause, Toy Story, and Jungle 2 Jungle.
However, with Tim Allen coming to Denver next year on February 2nd at Bellco Theater for a stand-up show, it is worth noting that this is not just a regular stop on the tour, but a homecoming show.
Tim Allen Was Born in Denver, Colorado on June 13, 1953
That’s right, one of the biggest figures of the 1990s was actually born here in Colorado. Who would’ve guessed?
Born in Denver, he was actually born as Timothy Dick, which he was teased about as a child. Allen says that this is what gave him his comedy chops, as he had to use humor as a defense mechanism.
His parents, Gerald and Martha Dick, actually purposed property in the Mile High City back in 1955, and Tim spent a good portion of his early childhood there until he moved to Michigan.
Tim Allen Had His Wedding at Grand Lake, Colorado
Back in 2006, Allen got married to his wife, Jane Hadjuk, at a private ceremony on Grand Lake in Colorado. Only family members were present for the wedding, with Tim Allen’s daughter and mother in attendance.
The couple is still going strong for almost the last 17 years, and have even worked together on multiple films like Joe Somebody and Shaggy Dog.
Tim Allen’s Most Recent Sitcom, Last Man Standing, Was Set in Denver, Colorado
Finally, Tim Allen’s most recent venture back into his status as beloved sitcom father figure began with his show, Last Man Standing, which ran for nine seasons from 2011-2021.
The show revolves around Mike Baxter (Allen), who is the owner of a popular outdoors store chain based in Denver, Colorado. After his wife returns to the workforce, Mike is forced to parent his three daughters much more closely than he ever has had to before.
While not a sequel to Home Improvement by any means, Last Man Standing is certainly a spiritual successor that makes a lot of references to the popular sitcom. One episode stars Patricia Richardson and Jonathan Taylor Thomas, who were both a part of Allen’s sitcom family in Home Improvement.
However, the strangest crossover happened in the second episode of the show’s final season. In this episode, Mike Baxter meets Tim Taylor, the character Allen played on Home Improvement all those years back. Allen later said doing both parts was extremely strange, but it was also a process that made him a bit emotional as well.
Even though Tim Allen is mostly known as a Michigander, it is clear that in many ways he still holds the state where he was born, Colorado, close to his heart.
