A number of investors secured the National Women's Soccer League franchise with a record expansion fee of $110 million.
The previous record for the highest expansion fee was $53 million held by a Boston group, with a Utah group matching the record a short time later.

The purchase was spearheaded by IMA Financial Group CEO Robert Cohen, with other investors being named as Parsyl CEO and former Obama administration official Ben Hubbard, sports business executive Tom Dunmore, Phos CEO Nicole Glaros, and former player and current analyst for the National Women's Soccer League Jordan Angeli.
