One of Delta, Colorado’s Oldest Buildings Has Been Lost To Fire

If you've ever walked down the streets of downtown Delta, Colorado to view the murals, chances are you walked right past the Delta Dry Cleaners near 2nd and Main. A fire that started late in the day on October 4th has resulted in the total loss of this 120-year-old building.

Several photos were shared by residents of Delta that evening. The photo below was shared by FB user Gerald Harmon who was in Colorado on vacation, and happened to be just down the street from the fire.

Everyone Loved Delta Dry Cleaners

A scroll through the message boards of this fun Western Slope community makes it easy to see the resident's of Delta loved Delta Dry Cleaners and so many of the businesses that had been at that address over the 120-year history.

The 120-Year-Old Sanders Building

Known by many in Delta as The Sander's Building according to the staff at the Delta County Historical Museum. The owners of the Delta Dry Cleaning business are Rick and Tonya Kraai. Pages like the Delta Message Boards on Facebook show so many people loved the Kraai family who lived in the building above the business for some time.

Smoke from the building could be seen rising up over the Mesa causing several people to wonder if a fire had started somewhere up there. It was shocking how fast the fire destroyed the property. It was just a giant pile of bricks by first light on October 5th.

Go Fund Me Organized For Delta Shop Owners

So far the Delta Community has shown up big time with more than $30,000 in donations via a GoFundMe page. It's heartbreaking when a great local business suffers a tragedy like this one. It's a miracle no one was seriously injured or killed, and that more of the buildings in close proximity did not suffer damage. The fire could have devastated downtown Delta far more than it did.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
