Which one of Colorado’s largest cities sees the most violent crime? Using crime data from the Federal Bureau of Investigations, we looking at 13 cities in Colorado with a population of 100,000 or more to see which location has seen the most violent crime in 2023.
Using data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Quarterly Uniform Crime Report – 2nd Quarter 2023, we can see which large cities in Colorado are seeing the highest number of violent crimes so far this year.
Colorado's Crime Data Ranked
There are 226 cities with a population of 100,000 residents or more that report violent crimes to the FBI. Each of the thirteen cities in the gallery below is assigned a rank out of a total of 226. A city ranked 1 for violent crime would be the city with the highest number of violent crimes out of 226 participating cities. See a PDF of the report here.
Colorado's Worst City for Violent Crime
Did you guess Denver? The mile-high city isn't at the top of Colorado's list of cities with the most violent crime, but they are a close second. Of the 226 cities that report violent crime to the FBI, Pueblo is the city that some could call the most dangerous in our state. Pueblo ranks in the top 10% of every violent crime category reported to the FBI.
Pueblo was ranked 5th overall for most violent crimes, ranked 18th for the number of murders, and ranked 6th for rape. The city of Pueblo was ranked 11th for robberies, and 7th for assault, property crimes, burglary, and vehicle theft. Pueblo was ranked 15th for larceny, and 3rd for the most crimes related to arson.
