Why Weld County Just Built a New Roundabout

Roundabouts...you either love 'em or you hate 'em!

Personally, I've grown to love them over the past years. I used to drive ten minutes out of the way to avoid them because they made me so nervous.

Now, I totally get the hype!

New Roundabout Completed Early in Weld County Road Project

A new roundabout has been completed right here in Weld County!

The new roundabout was completed several weeks ahead of schedule, according to reports. Located at Weld County Road 6 and Weld County Road 13, this traffic circle is near Dacono and can be found just east of Erie.

Initially, the project was set in motion in December with the construction officially starting in January.

From the looks of the initial plan, the roundabout was set to be complete by August 19th.

However, the project actually wrapped up 26 days ahead of schedule (July 24th). 

Weld County Awards $13 Million Contract to WW Clyde

Back in December, the Weld County Board of Commissioners awarded the project to the construction company WW Clyde.

They were not to surpass the $13,227,366 budget/allotment from the county to complete the project.

Why This Dacono Intersection Needed a Roundabout

The goal of this new roundabout is to "increase safety and efficiency" at this specific intersection. Apparently,  7,340 vehicles pass through it DAILY, according to Weld County officials. 

How Roundabouts Improve Traffic Flow and Safety

Typically, roundabouts can reduce the possibility of accidents and injuries by upwards of 80% compared to a two way stop. The majority of accidents that occur around this specific intersection in Weld County are broadside collisions.
