Sleeping is something everyone needs to do to function properly, and we all do it, but despite everyone needing to sleep, there are many different ways for people to sleep and to fall asleep. Some need noise, the television, or some sort of relaxing mechanism to help them fall asleep, while others need silence and can't have any noise. Some sleep on their side, some on their back, and others on their stomachs. Some sleep with socks, some fully clothed, and others in their underwear or fully nude. One common thing that many people need to sleep is a fan, to help make the room nice and cool. While sleeping with a fan may be relaxing for many, it could actually be more harmful than good in Colorado.

Sleeping with a fan on is common, and many prefer it over a quiet room with no moving air. It makes noise, it moves the air around, and for many, it is comforting. Plenty of sleepers in Colorado like their room a little chilly so they can cuddle with their partner, snuggle under some heavy blankets, or help prevent sweating during the night. According to healthline.com, there are pros and cons to sleeping with a fan on. The cons could be harming you while you sleep, and it also depends on what type of fan you sleep with, and how your body and your health are being affected. You could have a window unit, a ceiling fan, a moving fan, or a still fan. So which ones are good for you and which ones harm you, and how?

How can sleeping with a fan harm you when it is what is helping you fall and stay asleep at night? Rest is supposed to be good, right? According to the study, having a fan on at night is spreading dust throughout the room and can make your allergies worse, especially during fall and spring. This might explain why you continue to wake up stuffy or with a sore throat. If you don't clean your fan often, it will likely spread more dust and make things worse. Using a fan all night will also dry out your eyes, your skin, and your nose, which can lead to nose bleeds in severe circumstances. If you have pain in your muscles, that too could be from sleeping with a fan on, as it can cause muscle aches and cramps. While it may sound like sleeping with a fan on is terrible, it does have pros as well, as it helps regulate cooling effects in the room and works as white noise to help many relax and tune out other noises. It has also been proven to lower the chances of SIDS by up to 72 percent, if you have a baby sleeping in your room. It is recommended to use a moving fan, though, to keep the air moving throughout the room.

While sleeping with a fan on can lead to some issues, knowing it can help save a baby's life is a pretty big positive. If it works for you and the above are not concerns, then continue sleeping with a fan on, but if you are tired of feeling sick, you may want to find a new sleeping routine.
