Before You Say “I’m Fine To Drive” You Should Probably Read This
Drinking and driving is so stupid. Why would you put yourself and other people at risk driving impaired when we live in a world with Uber?
Northern Colorado is not messing around this summer when it comes to cracking down on impaired drivers, which makes me very happy.
Whether you're driving in Fort Collins, Loveland, Greeley, or anywhere else in Colorado, the "Summer Blitz" enforcement program is going strong, with a heavy police presence statewide. Did you know that between Memorial Day and Labor Day is known as the "100 deadliest days of summer"? Neither did I.
Fully one-third of deadly accidents in Colorado happen between that time frame. Which totally makes sense, given all the festivals and concerts happening during the summer months. That's why 67 law enforcement agencies in Colorado are upping their game by looking for impaired drivers and conducting saturation patrols.
Consequences of driving drunk
Other than the obvious, which is killing or hurting yourself or someone else on the road. It will definitely hurt you financially. Big time. You could also expect up to a year in jail, hefty fines reaching up to one thousand dollars, probation, a mandatory alcohol education program, the possibility of losing your driver's license, and more.
Is all of that really worth the cost of an Uber? No. No, it is not.
What should Colorado drivers expect?
- Police officers are upping their game, with many more patrolling, especially at concerts and festivals.
- More DUI checkpoints
- More in-depth testing
But it isn't just the booze; law enforcement will also pop you for marijuana, prescription meds, and anything else that would impair driving.
So be safe and make smart choices. Please.
