Summer is here in Colorado, and many people have already started fishing the waters. Nearly all of the people I know who fish regularly in Colorado aim for trout on the hook.

Colorado Anglers Can Win Cash Catching Northern Pike

However, if you are looking for a fight, you might want to set your sights on a different species of fish. Hooking and fighting these fish at two Colorado reservoirs this summer could win you some cash, too.

Northern Pike are predatory fish, and once hooked, they will put up quite a fight to stay in the water. Since this fish species threatens the downstream trout fishery, Colorado Parks and Wildlife is holding a tournament, and top anglers can take home up to $500 at the end of each month.

The tournaments have three different categories: Most points, Youth angler, and Mystery prize. The most points category lists Northern Pike 32 inches and under as three points, and Northern Pike larger than 32 inches as one point.

What Colorado Anglers Need Before Competing

Anglers looking to compete in the fishing tournament must register through the free app, Fishing Chaos. Users can create a free account, but GPS or location settings must be enabled for the location of the cathes to be verified on the app.

All anglers will also need a valid Colorado fishing license and a state parks pass to enter Sinney Mountain State Park to compete.  More information on the Northern Pike Fishing Tournaments can be found at cpw.state.co.us.
