Gas prices are always a big deal, and they have been all over the place the last few months. Gas prices were rapidly growing for the last couple of months, and there were questions about how high they would go, and then over the last couple of weeks, they have reversed course and have been going down, making many happy. Now that gas prices are going down, the question changes from how high to how low they will go in Colorado

This time last month, gas prices seemed like they were headed for a historic rise and were closing in on crossing above $5 a gallon. In Loveland, they never did cross that threshold, but did get up to $4.99. Prices would stall there for a few days and then start declining. It was predicted that gas prices would go above $5 in May, and thankfully that never happened, but now that they are going down, how low will they go? Many figured they would stay above $4, but many places around Northern Colorado have dropped below that amount, and drivers are excited to see many stations priced at $3 and change.

Colorado's current average gas price is $4.15, but many places in Northern Colorado are below the state average, with some stations being $3.99 and even some being as low as $3.83. Summer and holidays are usually when gas prices spike, because many are travelling, and it is rare to see them going down this time of year. Gas prices for the summer nationally are expected to average between $3.65 and $4. This is great news considering where they were a month ago, and many were contemplating canceling road trips due to the cost of fuel, but now can afford to take those trips once more.

Hopefully prices will continue to lower a bit more over the coming weeks, and as of this writing, they have continued to drop daily, even if it isn't a significant drop, every little bit helps. If you see anything below $4, make sure to fill up, as not every station is below that threshold yet in the area. No matter, it is nice to see prices level off and get back to a more normal cost, compared to the outrageous prices seen previously.

Take a virtual tour through an abandoned gas station with a Taco Bell restaurant attached, which appears to have been sitting on Colorado’s eastern plains for years.
