There is a long list of animals in Colorado that are considered to be dangerous. Snakes, elk, bears, and the one that scares me the most, the mountain lion. Some of these animals can cause serious damage, and in some cases, death.

While all of these animals in Colorado can cause injury when encountered, they are not considered the most dangerous in the state. Colorado's most dangerous animal doesn't appear to look menacing, but if you see one in the wild, your best bet is to stay far, far away and give it space to roam.

Colorado’s Most Dangerous Animal May Surprise You

According to World Population Review, the most dangerous animal in Colorado is the moose. These large animals are not naturally aggressive toward humans, but they can be deadly if they feel crowded, threatened, or if dogs are present.

Moose in Colorado are the smallest subspecies in North America. They might be smaller, but they are still large, weighing around 800 to 1,200 pounds and standing about six feet tall.

Give Moose Plenty of Space in the Wild

The moose is also the most dangerous animal in three other states. Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont all use extra caution when moose are encountered in the wild, because these massive animals could stomp you to death with little to no effort.

Other animals that are considered to be the most dangerous in the United States are whitetail deer, mountain lions, grizzly bears, coyotes, rattlesnakes, mosquitoes, and ticks. See the full list of the most dangerous animals by state at worldpopulationreview.com.
