Horsetooth Reservoir Getting Roads, Infrastructure Upgrade
Horsetooth Reservoir and Carter Lake will undergo more than $11 million upgrades over the next few years.
A large portion of the funding comes from an $8.6 million federal grant. Larimer County is also contributing $3 million toward the project which comes from user fees.
Planning will take place between 2021 and 2024 with construction expected from 2024 to 2026
The grant will go primarily toward the aging infrastructure of the reservoirs, Jennifer Almstead of the Natural resources Department told the Coloradoan.
A new trail is expected to be built from South Bay to Inlet Bay, which will help keep vehicles off the roads. The Inlet Bay marina access road and parking lot will be paved and striped while the South Bay entrance at Horsetooth Reservoir will be repaved.
Upgrades are also needed at the Carter Lake parking lots and entrances near Loveland. Ken Brink, the Visitor Services Manager, told the Coloradoan that "a lot of staff time currently goes toward managing parking."
