Merry early Christmas from CDOT, Northern Colorado - you're getting a climbing lane on I-25 near Berthoud.

From Sunday, December 4, through Tuesday, December 6, crews will work on the final alignment for the southbound I-25 lanes along the 3-mile incline known as Berthoud Hill, CDOT says in a news release. The additional lane is an operational and safety improvement for the area, which historically has seen congestion as trucks slow down to get up the hill.

Once the alignment is complete, the climbing lane will open, the speed limit through that stretch will resume to 75mph, and the project will go into winter shutdown until mid-April for remaining work items to be completed. (All work is expected to be completed by July 2017.)

Intermittent single-lane closures will take place December 7-8 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on southbound I-25 for rumble strip placement, but no other closures are expected until mid-April, weather permitting.
