Help Package Meals for Families In Need at Larimer County Food Bank
The Fort Collins Eyeopeners Kiwanis Club is hosting its 7th Annual Colorado Feeding Kids Food Packing Event September 24 at the Food Bank of Larimer County, and they want your help.
Eyeopeners Kiwanis Club President, Krista Taylor, spoke with "Tuned In to NoCo" about the event, and says it's a great chance for everyone to come together and make a difference in our community.
"This is an awesome opportunity to help stock the food banks for Larimer and Weld County with nutritious, delicious kid-friendly meals to help families who are facing food insecurity. Our goal is to raise $12,500, and we are hoping to be able to package 35,000 meals that day and that food will stay right here in the community."
Taylor says all ages are welcome to attend, and they will have two shifts available for volunteers.
"The shifts are 10am to 12pm and 12:30 to 2:30pm. You can volunteer all day or you can just come to the morning shift or the afternoon shift."
Last year, the club was able to meet their $12,500 goal and package almost 40,000 meals. Taylor says this history of volunteerism is one of the many reasons why they call themselves eyeopeners.
"Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers that are dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time...We call ourselves eyeopeners for a couple reasons: we meet at 7am on Thursday mornings, and our eyes are always open for opportunities to serve our community.
The Eyeopeners Kiwanis Club partners with Colorado Feeding Kids who have packaged about 7,600,000 meals so far in Colorado.
