Fund for Firefighter Raises Nearly 50K in One Day
Brian Hughes, a member of the Arrowhead Interagency Hotshots - an elite crew of highly trained wildland firefighters - and a former wildland firefighter with the Larimer County Sheriff's Office, was killed this past Sunday when a tree fell on him while fighting the Ferguson fire in California. He leaves behind a fiance' who is three months' pregnant with their first child.
Friends and family of Brian set up a GoFundMe account to raise funds for Hughes' fiance' Paige and their child. The goal was $5-thousand. In one day, the account hit $49,557 dollars. As of this writing, it is now up to $78,104.
From the GoFundMe page: "Brian is a hero who not only gave his life fighting fires but gave back to our country by saving lives and property countless times through his 15-year career".
