For years, Fort Collins Tours showed its customers the hidden gems of the Choice City through a variety of unique tours.

The company, which owners Lori, Chris, and Laurie Juszak founded in 2011, was most famous for its underground tunnel tours, which took guests through the historic "haunted" tunnels of Old Town.

However, crowded tours in enclosed spaces don't mesh well with a pandemic that requires social distancing.

Unfortunately, this dissonance has caused Fort Collins Tours to permanently close its doors.

According to The Coloradoan, the company tried to reopen this month with a limited-capacity tour after it temporarily closed in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

But after that tour, Lori Juszak told the publication that she and her co-owners realized they could not safely operate anytime soon, even with smaller tour sizes.

With no safe reopening in sight, the family decided that it was in their best interest financially to close the business.

"Like most businesses, our little walking tour business was impacted by the COVID-19 restrictions. Many of our stops were at business locations that had to be shut down. In the end, we agreed that it was time to close up shop," said the company in a Facebook post. "We would like to thank all the tour guides and businesses that worked with Fort Collins Tours over the years, and all the people that attended our tours."

Thankfully, Lori is still operating her Juszak Realty business and teaching at Front Range Community College.

And in the meantime, the ghosts of underground Fort Collins will get to rest for a while.
