Fort Collins, 4 Other Places to Float a Lazy River in Colorado
The weather is warming up and reminding me that it's time for one of my favorite activities of summer: floating down a lazy river.
Colorado is packed with rivers, but not all of them are great for a lazy float. I put together a list of the top 5 places to get your float on. To be fair, I was doing it anyway, for reference once these clouds clear up. Remember, please check weather conditions and watch for dangers in the water like logs, rocks or other debris while at the river.
1. Poudre River, Fort Collins
This one won't take you far from home; you can relax (maybe have a few beers) and float down the Poudre River surrounded by the rippling of canyon waters. This river travels right through Old Town, Fort Collins, so get out, grab a beer and a bite to eat while you drift.
2. Clear Creek, Golden
Clear Creek White Water Park doesn't sound lazy, but it's as lazy as it gets in Golden, Colorado. Take in all the scenery, soak up the sun and enjoy the local craft beer while spending the day relaxing.
3. Yampa River, Steamboat Springs
The Yampa River in Steamboat Springs is a slow-moving river, perfect for a summer float. Depending on where you start, you can float anywhere from 1-3 hours. (I'll take the scenic route) For this spot, you should make reservations ahead of time, as it is VERY popular due to the concessions along the river, like free trips back to your car when you're done floating.
4. San Juan River, Pagosa Springs
Enjoy a full day of tubing at this popular spot for only $29 a day. Find out more HERE.
5. South Platte River, Denver
When the sun is out, you can expect a lot of people in Denver's Confluence Park. The river runs from Littleton to downtown Denver and is ideal for floating. However, keep your head above water and watch out for kayakers and other water enthusiasts.
