First Candidate for Fort Collins Mayor Wants to Ban Marijuana Sto

While current Fort Collins Mayor Wade Troxell hasn't officially announced if he'll seek a third and final term, others seeking the office are beginning to emerge. Just this week, a local author and pastor, Jim Newhall, threw his name in the hat.

According to the Coloradoan, Newhall is a 47-year-old Fort Collins resident who describes himself as a nondenominational Christian pastor, and while he has beliefs about the city's electric rate structure and the need for affordable housing for the homeless, he leaves little doubt where he stands on the issue of legalized marijuana. Newhall told the Coloradoan, "I would definitely be in the stance to remove all of the marijuana shops in the city limits of Fort Collins", and that there are many in political office that are "addicted to the money" that marijuana brings in. He added, "If you're addicted to the money marijuana is making you, you are a drug dealer."

Newhall claims that Fort Collins Libraries and schools did not see a benefit from legal marijuana sales and that its legalization is "costing us our youth."

Newhall is the first to file for the Mayor's office. The city election will take place April 2nd.
