Another Great Movie Theater in Colorado Closes For Good

Movie buffs in Colorado are exhaling a sad sigh, as another place to "catch a movie" has announced its closure.

You have to wonder how society will look in 20 years, if the trend of closing movie theaters continues. What ever happened to that joy of sharing a great movie with a crowd of others?

When it comes to small towns, the loss is even greater, like with this one.

Estes Park Movie Theater Closes Down

It was in the spring of 2024, that Reel Mountain movie theater in Estes Park announced that things were in trouble. They started a subscription program stating that it was their "last ditch effort" to save the theater.

They had announced that if by the end of August 2024, if things hadn't turned around, they'd close. In the end, things did not get "better enough" by the deadline, and Reel Mountain announced it's final closure.

Reel Mountain's closure comes on the heals of several others, even within 2024: The Esquire and Che Artiste closed, both in Denver, have closed. It's just another sing of their being less places to see, as a gathering with others, a great film.

Times have definitely changed over the last 20-30 years, with the advancement in cable and then streaming services. It often comes down to convenience and costs; it's just a lot easier and cheaper to just sit at home and see a movie.

Future generations are likely to grow up not knowing the electricity of standing in a line to see a movie that you've "been dying to see." Those generations may scoff at the idea of waiting in a line for anything, let alone a movie.
