Elk Frequently Are Spotted Downtown Estes Park, But Not Always In Store
If you ever make it up to Estes Park and don't see elk wandering around at least once, did you ever really go to Estes Park?
I met some friends and took my daughters up there a few weeks ago to escape the heat and play tourist, and we had a blast. Even better, we managed to get a few elk sightings in over the course of the afternoon before we left town.

But tourists that flooded the town over 4th of July weekend got a little more than they bargained for as an elk not only was wandering through downtown, but actually wandered into a shop to have a look around. Even better, of course it was all caught on camera.
Rocky Mountain Connection, fittingly located at 141 E Elkhorn Ave. in downtown Estes Park, is like many other shops downtown where people who are visiting the town are walking the streets and popping in and out of the shop.
The elk was no different, as it wandered into the shop to have a look around, obviously startling people who were inside at the time. People started taking out their phones for photos and video, as police showed up to escort the elk out of the shop before any incidents happened.
It should go without saying that any close up encounter with wildlife of this size and sheet power can be very dangerous and people should never get too close to animals like this.

In the end, the massive animal left the store without buying anything. It's likely not because they didn't find anything they liked, but more a result of not having any pockets to keep cash or credit cards.
