Earth Day got its start back in 1970 as a demonstration to show support for environmental protections for our mother planet. Earth Day is now an annual event on April 22. Over 193 countries participate in Earth Day events, according to Wikipedia.

Here in Northern Colorado, the Sustainable Living Association has thrown annual Earth Day celebrations. Their 11th annual Earth Day Fort Collins event will be held virtually from Thursday, April 22, through Saturday, April 24.

The virtual events will feature "educational videos, speakers, workshops, activities, live-streamed music, community stories, tips on how to reduce environmental impacts and fun ideas on how to celebrate Earth Day at home," according to the SLA website. There's also a Driveway Jam Session happening on Friday, April 23rd, from 5 to 7 p.m. with Retro 102.5. This is a great chance to get to know your neighbors, enjoy great music and celebrate Earth Day. Get the full 3-day schedule here.

"Earth Day is a time to celebrate, it's a day to honor the earth,” says Kellie Falbo, Executive Director of the Sustainable Living Association. “We are relying on nature so much during this pandemic to help us stay healthy and sane, this event reminds us of our responsibility to protect the places we love."
