Living in Colorado means rooting for and following the Denver Broncos; the ups, the downs, the firings, the hirings. With all the different players the team has had, there are six jersey numbers that don't get used.

When football players join the Denver Broncos team, they may have been using a number in college that they'd like to keep, or they may just have a "lucky" number that they want on their jersey.

The same might go for a player that gets traded to the Broncos; if there is already an active player with the new player was using, he'll have to find another, just as long as its not one of the six that aren't used anymore.

These six jersey numbers hold special reverence to the team and thus aren't allowed to be worn any longer. When longtime fans see these numbers they say, "He was the best!" "The GOAT!" "They couldn't have done it, without him!"

Denver Broncos Have Six Jersey Numbers That Players Can No Longer Wear

I would have to think that an incoming Denver Broncos player, who comes in and cannot wear the jersey number they want, gets one as close to the one they wanted. If anything that number would be close to one of the greatest to ever play football.

In the grand scheme of things, the Broncos don't have that many jerseys that are unavailable; many other teams have more than a dozen jersey numbers "sidelined."

I can see rookies, getting their first jersey, thinking, "Maybe someday, nobody will be able to wear this number, because of my career."
