Denver Area Man Dies While Boating in Grand Canyon
Multiple outlets are reporting that a 63-year-old man from the Denver area was pulled unresponsive from the Colorado River while on an extensive private trip.
Though some outlets have it that a man from Loveland died in this boating accident in the Grand Canyon, it seems that it was a man from Lakewood, James Crocker.
Tuscon's, News4 reports that Crocker was on day six of an extensive boating trip when the accident happened at around 10 a.m, Monday, June 14. There are no reports on how long the entire trip was planned on taking.
The incident happened at a 'side canyon' within the national park, Hance Rapids, where the Red Canyon intersects the Grand Canyon. It's reported to be the biggest river drop along the Colorado River in the Gand Canyon plunging as much as 30 feet.
Crocker's friends pulled him from the river after the rapids caused him to be ejected from the boat, and proceeded to give him CPR. Emergency personnel arrived but were unable to revive the man.
The National Park Service, along with the Coconino County Medical Examiner, is conducting an investigation into the incident.
Locally, the Poudre River continues to be dangerous, not only with heavy waters but with debris from the Cameron Peak Fire also within the waters.
