File this under "things I didn't think anyone would ever try to do."

A pair of men from right here at home in Greeley have been arrested by the Grant Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana on suspicion of attempting to launch some illegal contraband into a prison with an air cannon, of all things.

Ever been to a sporting event and been up in the stands as whichever mascot was walking around firing t-shirts into the crowd? Yeah, basically like that.

The cannons can shoot things up to 350 feet. Apparently the fun-loving, family friendly concept sparked the idea that led to their arrest.

Because rather than free t-shirts, the men allegedly were going to stuff $112,000 worth of tobacco and $89,500 worth of meth into the canon and shoot it over a security fence. One can only assume that the plan was for someone inside the fence to retrieve the items and sell them, but alas, we will never know as their plan was foiled.

Officially they were arrested for "Attempting to Introduce Contraband into a Penal Institution" and "Attempting to Distribute Methamphetamine."

It's the air cannon part of the story that stands out to me. If only points were awarded for creativity, but unfortunately that's not the case. You can imagine that the Sheriff's Office had a good chuckle over the concept though.
