A restaurant chain that has existed since the mid-1980s may not be around much longer. Though they started strong, Boston Market has seen its share of issues, including with its headquarters in Golden, Colorado.

Boston Market started as Boston Chicken when it first began operations outside of Boston. Today, Boston Market has locations across the country. The two that Colorado has are currently "Temporarily Closed." Will that become "Permanent?"

Rotisserie chicken for the masses. Even now, it sounds like a great idea. There used to be a Boston Market in Fort Collins near Horsetooth and College; it's now a Noodles & Company.

Boston Market's menu is great: Chicken, turkey, meatloaf, pot pies, etc. It's "comfort food" ready to eat there or take home. Though the food is good, business is far from that these days.

WHERE ARE THE BOSTON MARKETS IN COLORADO?

  • Colorado Springs - Temporarily Closed
  • Westminster - Temporarily Closed

The company's headquarters are located in Golden, and you have to assume things are tense inside the building.

WHAT PROBLEMS IS THE COLORADO-BASED BOSTON MARKET HAVING?

Boston Market made the headlines in the summer of 2023 with the announcement that New Jersey shut down 27 of that state's 31 locations because the company owed $600,0000 in employees' back wages. New Jersey also fined Boston Market over $2 million.

When it comes to Boston Market's headquarters in Golden, which has been the HQ since 1996, the company was sued seven times from January 2023 until May 2023 in the effort to get back rent payments in the amount of nearly $600,000. In May 2023, the State of Colorado actually seized the headquarters because of unpaid taxes.

One of the company's other lawsuits is from one of its vendors, US Foods, which is looking to recoup over $11 million in unpaid bills.

WHEN DID THINGS START GOING SOUR FOR BOSTON MARKET?

According to Nation's Restaurant News, Boston Market's most recent troubles began when the company was purchased by the Rohan Group in 2020.

It really seems like just a short matter of time before we're talking about how there "used to be" Boston Market.
