Tens of thousands of people in Fort Collins and the surrounding Northern Colorado area are going to be head over heels when the intersection of College and Trilby officially reopens after two years.

When Will the College & Trilby Intersection Officially Be Back Open?

Friday, October 2, 2026, is going to be a Friday of jubilation, as that's the projected date from the City of Fort Collins as to when traffic will be flowing at College & Trilby once again. Two Christmas holiday seasons have gone by since the project began; having "clear sailing" at that intersection for the end of 2026 does sound great.

Businesses such as 7-11, Ziggi's and Southgate Church will definitely breathe a sigh of relief when this is all officially over.

College & Trilby Closures Ahead of Final State of Intersection Overhaul

To get things ready for a full reopening of the intersection, the City of Fort Collins will be shutting down lanes/access at College and Trilby for about 10 days.

  • College Avenue will be down to one lane (northbound and southbound) on September 17 at 6:30 p.m. until September 20 at 6:30 p.m., and again on September 24 at 6:30 p.m. until September 27 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Trilby, west of College, will be closed from Monday, September 21, through Sunday, September 27.

The last week of September (September 28-October 2) will see them testing the traffic signals; on Friday, October 2 (maybe even sooner), they'll be allowing traffic to go through the intersection again. It almost gives you goosebumps just thinking about it.

What Has the Trilby & College Project Been Doing for Two Years?

The $12-14 million project has included:

  • Two left-turn lanes from College Avenue onto Trilby Road.
  • Right-turn lanes in all directions.
  • A wider Trilby Road approach to College Avenue from both the east and west.
  • They also installed nstall a permanent traffic signal at College and Triangle Drive.
