A 25-year-old Cheyenne woman could face up to 20 years in prison after allegedly hitting her sister with her SUV.

According to court documents, Cheyenne police were called to the 1900 block of O'Neil shortly before 3 p.m. on February 28.

Police say Veronica Olivares pulled up in a Dodge Durango and said she'd been involved in a physical altercation with her sister.

Olivares told police that her sister had hit her in the face multiple times and pulled her hair, so she put her hands on her sister's throat to push her away and stop the attack.

Olivares' sister told police that she was riding in Veronica's SUV when the two began arguing and that Veronica pulled over and started kicking her.

When Olivares' sister opened the door to get out of the SUV, she says Veronica drove forward and hit her, backed up and hit her and then drove off.

Police say Olivares admitted to hitting her sister, but claimed it was an accident because the gear shifter on her SUV wouldn't go into park sometimes.

Olivares was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault and battery - bodily injury with weapon. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 9 in Laramie County Circuit Court.
