Check Out This Crazy Caterpillar Spotted in Colorado

My kids were riding scooters outside our garage and suddenly I hear "whoa, what is that?" I have lived in Colorado most of my life and I have never seen anything like this. The caterpillar had a prominent head shape and fake eel-like eyes. So, what is it and what does it turn into?
