Charges Officially Filed Against Trucker in I-70 Crash That Killed Four
It was one of the most horrific crashes in Colorado highway history. Four people were killed when the truck slammed into stopped traffic. Here are the charges against him.
Rogel Lazaro Aguilera-Mederos was charged on Friday, May 3, 2019, by the Jefferson County District Attorney, in regards to the fiery crash on April 25, that killed four people, seriously injured two, and left over two dozen people with at least minor injuries.
According to Denver 7, Aguilera-Medoras faces 40 charges, 36 of which are felonies: Six counts of vehicular homicide (the four who perished, and the two that were seriously injured) along with another 24 charges of attempted vehicular homicide.
The D.A. said that Aguilera-Mederos exhibited 'extreme indifference to human life' on that day. He noted that the speed limit in that area of I-70 for a semi is 45 mph, and they believe he was going over 85 mph a the time of impact. By now most of us have seen the video where he speeds passed the runaway truck ramp.
I kind of thought they might have brought lesser charges; like, involuntary manslaughter.
