I know a thing or two about kids getting bored during the summer months. I should, I have 3 kids. I have raised one and currently have a teen at home who will before long start with the typical 'I'm bored' pleas. Over the years I've learned, it is not enough to have the latest, greatest gaming system, every game for said system known to man. The newest Iphone or tablet won't do the trick either. I say you take it old school.

5 WAYS TO KEEP TEENS ENTERTAINED DURING THE SUMMER:

One thing to keep in mind is that my 2 are boys. I don't have experience yet with a teen girl but several of my suggestions I would say apply to both. That is up to you, the parent, to decide.

  • suggest getting a little side job-my son was hesitant at first but decided to mow the neighbor's lawns last summer. I'm telling you right now, once he realized there was money involved, he sure did get out and hustle to do not only our neighborhood but other surrounding neighborhoods as well. Young ladies can babysit. There are plenty of parents out there who need a sitter during the summer.
  • buy them a bike-sounds cheesy I know but if they are not quite driving age like my teen, take it old school. You might get some push back but low-key he/she will love it. Riding around with other kids in the neighborhood, heading to the nearest convenience store for a snack and a drink can be fun.

    3. invest in some cornhole boards-I did. Best investment I've made in a long time. They get to spend some time outside instead of being cooped in their room all day and quite honestly cornhole has become super popular in the last few years. It's fun! Encourage them to have a friend over to have someone to play with/compete against.

    4. drop them off at the local boys/girls club-especially if your teen has never been to one, most clubs have basketball courts, a swimming pool, a gym to workout, and some even have pool tables and ping pong tables.

    5. vacation bible school-so this is typically only a week, two tops but many churches encourage the older kids to get involved. Have your teen help out at VBS at your church or maybe go with a friend to theirs? I did this many summers as I got older and it is very rewarding working with little ones, doing fun activities and is another way to stay busy during the summer.
