World’s Largest Steam Powered Locomotive Makes Colorado Visits

I've never been much of a train nerd, aside from the usual curiosity watching them pass whenever you get stuck at a crossing.

I did have a train set as a kid, but I have no idea what happened to it. And I can't say I really know any modern day train nerds, but having seen a handful of them pop up on my social feeds, I guess I understand the fascination?

Especially when it comes to the old school trains. And folks right here in Colorado will be in for a treat before July is finished, as Big Boy No. 4014 - the world's largest steam locomotive still in operation today - will make a pass through the state of Colorado on July 27, 28 and 29.

There aren't any "official" stops with events for you to tour the locomotive, but it will be stopping throughout the state over three days for various "whistle stops" and a private event at Union Station in Denver.

The NoCo whistle stop will happen in Greeley, at the 10th Street crossing, right next door not-so-ironically next to the Colorado Model Railroad Museum.

It is slated to arrive somewhere around 1:00 PM that afternoon, but all routes and schedules are subject to change, of course.

And you know what? Merely doing a little research for this article, now I definitely understand the fascination. DEFINITELY something to take your kids to see, even if just to say you did!
