Cities and towns all over Colorado love to get "decked out" for the Christmas season. Berthoud, in Northern Colorado, is one of those towns, and they don't kid around when it comes to having a decorated Christmas tree for the whole town and visitor to enjoy. Everyone in the area should be putting a visit to Berthoud during the season, on their annual list.

Having a population of about 12,000, Berthoud is definitely what you'd call a "small town;" that doesn't mean that they necessarily do things "small." That's the case when it comes to the tree that they decorate for Christmas at the town's Fickel Park, in the heart of Berthoud. Fickel Park is known for having many sculptures, including one honoring a hero one-eyed dog; for Christmas, it's known for having the tallest live decorated Christmas tree. While there's debate about it being the tallest one in all of Colorado, it is definitely the tallest one in Northern Colorado.

Berthoud's Fickel Park, named after the family that donated the land, was once where the old Berthoud School once stood.

Berthoud's decorated Blue Spruce tree towers at 80 feet. For many years, Westminster was able to brag about their tall Christmas tree, which is 64 feet. Berthoud's definitely puts that to shame, but there is an 85-foot tree in Aspen that gets decorated every year. Who really wants to go all the way to Aspen to see that, though, right?

Again, this tree is a great reason to get the gang and head to Berthoud for the holiday season: do some shopping, grab a bite to eat, grab a beer.
