There are lots of quotes about being prepared. Most of us don't want to be ready for the worst, but there are certainly times when that is in fact a brilliant thing to do. Natural disasters are one of those times.

"Bad luck is when lack of preparation meets reality."

September is National Preparedness Month. Here in Northern Colorado, the emergencies we most need to be prepared for are fires, floods, blizzards, and tornadoes. Obviously, there are a lot of factors like pets, mobility, cell phone service, having a place to go, where you live, and tons of others that vary among our community. Indeed, every situation is different, but specific preparations can help in the event of disaster.

One of the things that people seem to say after disasters is that it's important to know your neighbors and have their phone numbers. That makes so much sense.

The City of Fort Collins is holding 4 different popup events so you can learn more about how to be prepared for certain emergencies. Education will be around teaching the community how to best "prepare themselves, their families and their pets for emergencies."Fort

Here's where and when those popups will take place:

  • Sept. 20, 10 a.m.-noon: Murdoch’s Ranch & Home Supply, 135 Bockman Dr.
  • Sept. 24, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.: Open Streets, location details
  • Sept. 27, 10 a.m.-noon: Home Depot, 4502 John F Kennedy Pkwy.

If you can't make it to one of these popup events,Fort Col you can learn more about emergency preparedness, including how to sign up for local community alerts and make an emergency kit, at fcgov.com/eps.
