‘American Idol’ Champ Lee DeWyze Dropped by His Record Label
If 10 seasons of ‘American Idol’ have taught us anything, it’s that viewers who vote for the winner cannot necessarily be counted on to buy that person’s albums later on. In other words, for every Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, there’s at least one Taylor Hicks.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the latest victim of such fickle behavior is season nine winner Lee DeWyze, who’s been dropped by his label, RCA. DeWyze’s debut, ‘Live It Up,’ has sold only 168,000 copies since its release almost a year ago, a few months after he won the Fox competition.
Regardless, a rep for the 25-year-old singer, who recently announced his engagement to model and actress Jonna Walsh, said he is “in a good place right now” and excited about other professional prospects.
