In an age where families in Colorado are so easily distracted by everything, taking some time to get out of the house and into Downtown Loveland for some un-distracted fun sounds like a great summer night.

A Summer Tradition in Loveland That Dates Back Over a Decade

The Rialto Theater's annual "$5 Friday Flashback" movie series each summer has been happening since at least 2014 at the 100+ year-old historic venue. Every community should have a little movie theater like The Rialto; they take you back to a time when thing weren't so hectic and 'crazy."

I remember my father taking me as a kid to see "Herbie Rides Again" in 1974 at The Rialto; Dad probably popped $10 total for two movie tickets, popcorn and soda that night. That's one of the reasons that I like the idea of these "cheap" movies: They make it easier for "quality-time" with the family.

What Movies are Playing for '$5 Flashback Fridays' in Loveland for 2026?

  • FRIDAY, JUNE 12 @7:00 p.m. - 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' (2014)

The series kicks off with a Wes Anderson gem. It gets a deserved 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, blending comedy and poignancy in Anderson's deft hands. And, what a cast.

  • FRIDAY, JUNE 26 @7:00 p.m.: 'That Thing You Do!' (1996)

2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the Tom Hanks classic, that he's hardly in. Every time this comes on the TV, I have to stop and watch; seeing the whole thing again, start to finish, for $5 sounds like a plan. Also, can you name a role that Steve Zahn hasn't crushed?

  • FRIDAY, JULY 3 @7:00 p.m.: 'Independence Day' (1996)

It's hard to believe that the original "Independence Day" came out 30 years ago. Bill Pullman as the President, Jeff Goldblum as the scientist who's going to save the day, crazy Randy Quaid, and Will Smith's "Welcome to Earth." Seeing it again on the big screen over the 4th of July weekend would be perfect for $5.

  • FRIDAY, JULY 17 @7:00 p.m.: 'Napoleon Dynamite' (2004)

$5 to see Fort Collins' own Jon Heder pull of some of the sickest dance moves again on the big screen will be fun. May I suggest hitting up Loveland Tap & Tavern, across the street, beforehand for some of their Stuffed Tots.

  • FRIDAY, JULY 23 @7:00 p.m.: 'Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure' (1989)

The last movie of the 2026 series is the oldest and one of the most fun. Two lazy rock 'n roll teens will not go onto unite the universe in the future unless they do exactly what George Carlin tells them to, so that they can pass history.
