San Miguel Sheriff's Office reports that a Jeep on Black Bear Pass rolled off of the roadway and onto Bridal Veil Road on Saturday.

The incident occurred when the driver of a Jeep Wrangler Sport shut off the engine and applied the emergency brake to assist a driver behind him navigate a tight turn. The Jeep started to roll and the driver attempted to get back into the vehicle to steer the Jeep when he was thrown into the rocks. The Jeep then left the road and rolled down several switchbacks. The passenger, a 23-year-old female, was ejected before the Jeep came to a stop on the roadway.

The driver sustained minor injuries and the passenger was airlifted by Careflight to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction with serious traumatic injuries. A puppy that was riding in the Jeep was safe, however, the dog described as a 10-month-old black lab is missing.
