High Park Fire

Residents of Fort Collins came out in droves to thank over 2,300 firefighters battling the High Park Fire, now estimated at 83,205 acres with 45 percent containment.  The current cost of the fire to date is estimated at $29.6 million dollars...

K99 and our sister stations were at the  Donations Collection Center at the Foothills mall in Fort Collins last night collecting items for victims of the High Park Fire.   Our friends and neighbors need our help.  191 homes have been lost in the fire so far.

On Wednesday, I took a guided tour of the High Park Fire. As Poudre Fire Authority guided me along the fire's path of destruction and loss, it reminded me of how the Windsor Tornado traveled over four years ago, behaving in similar fashion when destroying some property, while leaving other property right next door untouched.

Today, I was escorted by the Air National Guard and Poudre Fire Authority inside the  High Park Fire restricted zone. We drove into Poudre Canyon on Colorado Highway 14. We started our tour along CR29-C, just about 1 mile west of Ted's Place, off Highway 287 north of Fort Collins.

Finally there is a way you can help those affected by the High Park Fire west of Fort Collins. The High Park Fire Donations Collection Center has opened in the Foothills Fashion Mall in the space that used to be  Mervyn’s.

The man accused of impersonating a firefighter at the High Park Fire west of Fort Collins, apparently had his picture taken with Colorado Governor, John Hickenlooper.

Many of us are smelling smoke even several miles from the High Park Fire, it can affect your health.  We turned to some information in a video featuring Dr. Jim Hoyt from Northern Colorado Pulmonary Consultants in Fort Collins for some ways the High Park Fire can affect our health and what should be done if you are experiencing symptoms.

The latest count on structures destroyed in the High Park Fire as of Friday afternoon is 112. The Larimer County Sheriff's Office released this number within the last 30 minutes and said in a briefing Friday afternoon, that more destroyed homes still need to be counted.

A spot fire started last night at the High Park Fire. This spot fire is estimated at 200 acres this afternoon. The Larimer Country Sheriff's Office says about 100 firefighters are working this spot fire in addition to an air attack.  These resources are focusing on structure protection in the Glacier View area.
