A Larimer County Sheriff's Office deputy was involved in a shooting in Fort Collins during the afternoon on Monday (Jan. 10).

According to the sheriff's office, the communications center initially received a report at approximately 2:06 p.m. regarding a suspicious white male at Family Dollar located at 8099 6th Street in Wellington.

When deputies arrived at the store, the male fled in a pickup truck and a vehicle pursuit was initiated.

The chase ended at East Mulberry Street and Interstate 25 at approximately 2:24 p.m. Reports indicated that one of the deputies fired their weapon, striking and injuring the adult suspect. The suspect was transported to a local hospital and will be placed into custody once released.

No deputies were injured during the altercation.

I-25 remained closed between Prospect Road (south) and Mountain Vista Drive (north), and CO-14 was at I-25 for a period of time while law enforcement investigated the incident.

The Eighth Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) has been activated to investigate this officer-involved shooting. Fort Collins Police Services is the lead investigating agency.
