While technological advances have helped many Coloradans, school kids in Colorado are liking it all. It's hard to blame them, when so many of us used to get the day off.

In an age where your next job may be done solely by remote, that kind of tech is robbing schoolchildren of something most of used to really enjoy: snow days. A Colorado girl is hoping to change that.

She wants kids to have the chance to "be kids" on days when the school buses aren't running.

Colorado Schoolgirl Hopes to Get 'Snow Day' Installed in Schedule

Having grown up in Colorado, I remember those great "snow days" we used to get, back in the day. You'd spend time in front of the TV, watching The Price is Right; you'd go out and play in the snow; you'd come back in for tomato soup and grilled cheese.

Today, since learning can be done over the internet, and "snow days" can mess up the amount of instruction kids are supposed to get at school, "snow days" are becoming rarer and rarer. A 12-year-old girl in the Colorado Springs area has had enough of that.

According to Colorado Pubic Radio, Emily Beckman has started a Change.org petition to get her school district to re-vamp its "snow days" policy, including that there shouldn't be school if the Air Force Academy is closed for the day; that sounds pretty fair, to me.

Colorado Schoolgirl's Plan for 'Snow Days' Has 3 Main Points

Emily's plan would also see the district keep the six that are already plugged into the school calendar, as real "snow days," and then any "snow day" after that would be e-learning days for middle school and high school (elementary school kids would get rea snow days.)

Emily is hoping to get 5,000 signatures on her petition; what the school district might do after she reaches that goal is uncertain.
