In the video, Sallinger said that volunteers were needed for the Colorado State Patrol so cadets could practice field sobriety tests. It is also a practice for cadets to learn how drunk drivers may act.

Inside the Colorado Wet Lab: How It Works
Sallinger said that the wet lab started at 9:00 a.m. The Colorado Police Department brought volunteers in and got them, well, drunk. They looked at their blood alcohol level to get them drunk enough to show what people will act like when they are going to fail a sobriety test.
