Over 700 Colorado Workers to Be Laid Off After USPS Contract Ends

Hundreds of Colorado workers will be laid off in the coming weeks as a company that is contracted by the United States Postal Service did not renew the contract with the company.

USPS Contract Decision Triggers Colorado Layoffs

According to KDVR, Alan Ritchey, Inc. submitted a WARN notice to Colorado officials stating that more than 700 employees will be laid off on February 28, 2026. The company was contracted for the United States Postal Service's Denver Regional Transfer Hub, says that the Postal Service did not extend the performance period of their contract on December 29, 2025.

The United States Postal Service Regional Transfer Hub opened in October 2024. According to an audit by the USPS Office of the Inspector General, the United States Postal Service reworked the contract with the company that was operating the Denver facility, stating it would transfer to insourcing the Denver Regional Transfer Hub operations before the end of 2025.

Mail Security Issues Found During USPS Audit

The audit performed by the inspector general in July 2025 was prompted by mail security at the Denver Facility, where the audit found numerous issues with packages at risk of damage and theft, potentially by contracted employees. Investigators found priority mail stickers removed from containers and were hidden on the workroom floor, inside mail transport equipment, and in the inbound dock area.

KDVR says that the audit shows that Postal Service management expressed concern that contract employees were opening PMOD bags to pilfer select medications. A prior investigation at the Denver Regional Transfer Hub resulted in three contract employees being terminated for theft or knowledge of theft.
