How Colorado Compares to Rest of U.S. in COVID Cases Right Now

COVID-19 cases have been increasing across the country for three weeks, the CDC said, even as vaccines roll out. Here's how Colorado compares to other states in the U.S.

According to the CDC, in the last seven days, Colorado has had over 180 cases per 100,000 people, and that is on the high end of seven-day case rate per 100,000. Colorado is in the same range as Nebraska, Illinois, Vest Virginia, Florida, and a handful of states in the Northeast.

Wyoming, by comparison, has had 71 cases per 100,000 in the last week. Wyoming has also had no state-regulated mask mandate since mid-March. You can view more info my state with the map, below.

If you're thinking, 'What the heck is going on here?" well, me too. This news is a bit surprising, considering Colorado's progress with the vaccine rollout. Nearly two million Coloradans have at least the first dose of the two-dose COVID-19 vaccines, and 1.1 million are fully immunized.

Up until now, Colorado's positivity rate had been steadily declining. Now, it has surpassed five percent, at 5.6 percent, after a few months of being below the threshold that the World Health Organization recommends being under before governments reopen.
