Four New Species of Millipedes Found in Colorado

Fanatics of creepy, crawly things, you're about to bug out. There has been a discovery of four new species of millipedes in the state of Colorado. According to KDVR, these millipedes are only found in Colorado and are a part of a new genus, which will be called Coloradesmus.

The millipedes that were discovered live underground in total darkness and have no eyes. They also have 17 pairs of legs, are albino, and navigate using their antennae.

These are the official names for the new species:

• Coloradesmus Warneri - found in a cave near Fort Collins
• Coloradesmus Manitou - found in Cave of the Winds, Manitou Springs
• Coloradesmus Beckleyi - found in Glenwood Caverns, Glenwood Springs
• Coloradesmus Hopkinsae - found in five U.S. Forest Service caves

The four new species have been identified after 20 years of research by David Steinmann, a research associate in the zoology department of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and Dr. William Shear, a professor of biology emeritus at Hampden-Sydney College.
