CAM The Ram, a cheer squad and pep band will all celebrate Colorado State University turning 150 years old on Tuesday (Feb. 11).

The university's sesquicentennial will be honored from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Foundry dining center lobby. Treats and giveaways will be part of the fun.

CSU President Joyce McConnell and CSU System Chancellor Tony Frank will also join members of the Colorado state House of Representatives and Senate at 9 a.m. at the Colorado State Capitol to celebrate with the reading of proclamations.

The Colorado congress celebration will include performances by CSU’s Acapella Group and the CSU-Pueblo Chamber Choirs.

CSU plans to honor Libbie Coy, the first woman to graduate from a Colorado college, with a 2020 Founders Day Award.

The roots of CSU can be traced back to Abraham Lincoln, who signed the Morrill Act of 1862 that created the framework for the founding of one college in every state dedicated to the agricultural and mechanical arts.

Territorial Gov. Edward M. McCook signed the act that formally established the State Agricultural College of Colorado in Fort Collins on Feb. 11, 1870.
