Newly elected Denver school board director Tay Anderson says he will not stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.
Before Anderson was elected to the Denver School Board he was a self-proclaimed activist who protested the treatment of African Americans by the police, gun violence and immigration enforcement.
Anderson said this in a press release explaining why he would remain seated:
“As a Black man, I am reminded today and every day of the injustices that still exist in our society. I am remaining seated as a representative for those who were not afforded the right to be here today.”
He went on to say that he "will not stand while white supremacy is thriving."
