CO Man at Capitol Riots in Trouble For Killing Mountain Lion
A man that was allegedly involved in the riot that took place at the United States Capitol on January 6th, 2021, is now in even more trouble as he was caught shooting and killing a mountain lion in Colorado.
The man, Patrick Montgomery, was at a campground south of the Denver area back on March 31st, 2021, where he allegedly shot and killed the mountain lion. Montgomery is a convicted felon and therefore isn't allowed to carry firearms.
Following his involvement with the Capitol riots back in January, Montgomery was granted a pretrial release after pleading not guilty to charges of violent entry and disorderly conduct. However, that has since been revoked as the Federal Bureau of Investigation has learned of the shooting and killing of the mountain lion.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife were notified that a picture had been taken of Montgomery holding the dead mountain lion following it being shot and the man was subsequently detained because of it.
Terms of Montgomery's release following his involvement in the Capitol riots included that he was not allowed to possess firearms, a term that would have been in place anyway because of the fact that he was already a convicted felon.
Montgomery became a convicted felon back in 1996 after pleading guilty to three counts of robbery in New Mexico. Although Montgomery alleged that he was allowed to possess firearms despite being a convicted felon, the courts found nothing to corroborate his statement.
Montgomery is currently on an ankle monitor and is not allowed to leave his home.
