I can't believe how many times meditation has come up in conversation in the last few weeks.

It really seems like everyone around me is interested in this ancient practice. It's coming up very casually, like, "How've you been?" they reply "Good. Mostly. For the stressful parts, I am trying to get into meditation."

This is coming from friends and business colleagues. As I started to seek changes that bridged me from the wild 20's and early 30's to a more sustainable prime, I met many who practiced meditation and mindfulness.

Oprah launched her awesome show Super Soul Sunday which is never far away from a mention of mindfulness.

My wife. Her friends. Then yesterday my dad said to me on the phone;

I'm going to send you a book. It's about meditation and it's written by Russell Simmons.

Nice.

We are lucky enough in Northern Colorado to have a sizable sample of citizens who are into stillness and other such pursuits.

Here are some of the resources for those who want to meditate in Fort Collins.

Shambala Centers

loading...

Shambala Centers and efforts exist in Fort Collins and Red Feather Lakes.

There is one in Boulder too, but I don't know if they are affiliated or if it's just a popular name.

I learned to meditate at a donation suggested Wednesday night session at the Shambala Center in Old Town Fort Collins. It was simple, short, and encouraging.

If you are a first timer, just let them know that you are new and they'll guide you right through it. Being a first timer in meditation is easy, because the motions you go through are simply sitting down, being quiet and breathing. What happens in your head is up to you and your business, and even though you think they might, no one around you knows what is happening up there, and they probably don't care.

Shambala Mountain Center

loading...

The Shambala Mountain Center is an events center complex in the mountains of Red Feather Lakes, Colorado, and it is beautiful. There are conferences, yoga retreats, meditation retreats, speakers, group getaways and all kinds of things that happen there throughout the year. It features accommodations from tent to rustic to cabins. The grounds are gorgeous, populated by a wide variety of Rocky Mountain wildlife and connect through a variety of trails.

The setting itself is beautiful enough for a world class resort, but that's not the main reason some visit. The Shambala Mountain center has a remarkably unique feature.

The Great Stupa of Dharmakaya

Amongst the dry pines of the rising Rocky Mountains sits one of the most elaborate, most surprising and one of the most interestingly placed stupas in the world. Its gold towers hearken to sacred architecture. When I stepped inside I felt like I should be in India. It is called the Great Stupa of Dharmakaya, and it is the center of many of the varied retreats, conferences, meditation gatherings and other events at the Shambala Mountain Center.
