In this blog I will share with you some books that have helped me get what I want. While we refer to money a lot in this blog post, please keep in mind that I refer to, and the books I mention also refer to much more than that. Use these to attain anything that you want. It isn't just about money, although that is one thing that is on many people's list of what they want.

One of the ideas is that if you want something, then start thinking about how it! Start watching shows about it, listening to audio about it, talking about it and, dare I say, obsessing over it. Also, you must start reading about it.

I can promise you this, it isn't going to happen if you don't think about it. Another great thing that I can promise about this process is that none of these books will ask you to do anything unethical or questionable to acquire what you want. In fact, most of them argue against it.

Here are 5 books that will help you make more money, or get what you want.

1. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

This is, besides possibly Emerson's essay on Self-Reliance, is the original self-help book concerning money. Not only that, but it's got mad cred because of how it was created. Andrew Carnegie...yes, that Andrew Carnegie...commissioned the book in the first part of the 20th century. He was a member of the elite, had access to the elite and used his influence to give Napoleon Hill access to the richest men in the world, with a mandate that Hill find a common aspect of all these great men and put it into words for the good of humanity. The result is Think and Grow Rich. If you are slick enough, you don't even have to read the book because the way to riches is, many believe, in the title.

2. The Science of Getting Rich/The Science of Being Great/The Science of Being Well

This is the book that inspired the movie The Secret. Wallace Wattles was one of the early 20th Century New Age thinkers that proposed that belief is the path to riches. This book has concise chapters that cover the important parts of being rich. It's 'right to the point' nature is unlike Hill's Think and Grow Rich. Where Hill uses example after example of why what he is saying is true, Wattles simply states it and moves on. Take it or leave it.

This is often sold as a trilogy, and if you see it in that form, I recommend it. I sometimes enjoy the Science of Being Great more than the Science of Getting Rich because when greatness abounds, only good things, including riches and wealth, should follow.

3. The Magic of Believing by Claude Bristol

This mid-20th-century work by Bristol simply confirms what Wattles and Hill had been saying all along. For me, the great thing about this whole experiment is that all of the leading thinkers in the arena say the same thing, and the thing they say is really simple--believe. It sounds simple, but putting it into practice is more difficult that one may think. This book gives concrete practices for increasing belief.

4. You2 (You Squared) by Price Pritchett

While the books above give how-to steps to have what you desire, You2 (You Squared, or You 2 exponential) is more about change. If I don't have what I want, then I can't continue to think the way I have always thought, act the way I've always acted and live the way I've always lived and expect anything to change, right? I have to get serious about change. This book explains how it's okay to be uncomfortable when starting down this path. For example, it takes a lot more energy to get a plane off the ground than it does to make it continue to fly through the sky. The work of significant change is front loaded, and it can be scary. There are inspirational words in this book that just may keep you going. Plus, it has short chapters that can be read quickly that can give just the boost we sometimes need.

5. Abundance by Peter H. Diamandis and Steven Kotler

This is the most modern of all of these works. It argues against any type of 'We're doomed!' thinking that is, and always has been prevalent with humans. Showing examples of how there has never been a time in human history with more potential than right now, it inspires us to celebrate everything we have going for us, rather than fear for the future. Technology has been changing our world more rapidly than ever up until now, and we haven't even chipped through the first layer of that. It's amazing because it echoes what Wattles said in the early 1900's. The world isn't going to hell. The world is just fine and getting better!
